Who Gets Cancer?

Over a million people each year from cancer. About one of two American men and one woman in three Americans has some type of cancer at some point in their lives. Anyone can get cancer at any age, but over 77% of all cancers in people aged 55 and over are diagnosed. Although cancer occurs in Americans of all races and ethnic groups vary the frequency of cancer (the so-called incidence) from group to group.

Today, millions of people with cancer or who have been cured of the disease. The sooner a cancer is detected early and treatment begins the best chance of a patient for a cure. Therefore, early detection of cancer is an important weapon in the fight against cancer.
